What is the Hummingbird Project?
A place to learn and activate to make a collective impact on the protection and advancement of Reproductive Freedom in the 2024 elections and beyond.
The Hummingbird Project was born out of our deep desire to help people easily uplift and champion reproductive freedom before the election in November and beyond. We do this by curating out a lot of noise and empower you with the knowledge you need and the actions to take to make the highest impact out of your time and money as it relates to fighting for broader reproductive access for everyone.
With our access to the leaders of multiple repro organizations, the best messaging and research projects and election teams, we can successfully blur the lines of advocacy, electoral, litigation and fundraising and channel our action through one lens. For those of us in Los Angeles, it’s a monthly meet up where we can gather together in person for a couple hours, enact real change through action and stand in solidarity with women across this country who need us to fight for them. For those who want to help pollinate while not being in Los Angeles, we have created this Substack which will be a curated resource of learning, calls to action, and our election giving slate.
Why the name Hummingbird? At the end of last year, Sydney Feeney (Morgan’s mom), a reproductive rights advocate throughout her life, passed away after a fast, unrelenting and cruel battle with pancreatic cancer. Just before she died she told us that she would come back as a hummingbird. Hummingbirds are known as a symbol of courage, hope and tenacity. With only months until the most consequential election for women in our lifetime, it seemed pretty serendipitous and hard to deny that the hummingbird who inspired this all is telling us it’s our time to act. We know how loud and scary things feel right now. At every turn, chaos is rising. The human defense is to retreat, but we deeply believe that our path forward is to stay together, in community and action. Hummingbirds have been known to fly over 2000 miles to reach a destination and we must inhabit that same determination. Join us, CHIRP, CHIRP!
